Taekwondo Tots – up to 6 years of age

Due to a continual demand to train young children , we will be establishing a ‘Taekwondo Tots’ class for ages up to 6 years. The concept is to provide a kid’s class separate to older members, whilst transitioning those kids into the mainstream classes at the appropriate time.

The classes will be at the Mt Gravatt Scout hall – Logan Road Mt Gravatt each Saturday from 8.30 am – 9.30 am. The current fee structure applies

Classes start 2 June 2012 and interested persons should contact me via email to register.

Chinchilla Men’s Shed

On the 19th Of May at the Chinchilla Museum there will be the grand opening of the “Chinchilla Men’s Shed”
The Chinchilla Men’s Shed is an initiative of the Apex Club of Chinchilla backed by the Australian Men’s Shed Association”

What is a Men’s Shed? Extract taken from http://www.mensshed.org/home/.aspx “The modern Men’s Shed is an updated version of the shed in the backyard that has long been a part of Australian culture. Men’s Sheds are springing up all around Australia. If you looked inside one you might see a number of men restoring furniture, perhaps restoring bicycles for a local school, maybe making Mynah bird traps or fixing lawn mowers or making a kids cubby house for Camp Quality to raffle.

You might also see a few young men working with the older men learning new skills and maybe also learning something about life from the men they work with. You will see tea-bags, coffee cups and a comfortable area where men can sit and talk. You will probably also see an area where men can learn to cook for themselves or they can learn how to contact their families by computer.”

The initiative is one that I personally feel aligns with our clubs values and principles and as such I would like to see members within our club donate small tools and pieces of equipment that the men’s shed could use.

What can I donate?

  • Hammers
  • Screwdrivers
  • Pliers
  • Electrical items such as Saws etc are more than welcome.
  • Any Tool Item is more than welcome!
  • Tools can be brought to classes between now and the 19th of May or they maybe taken directly to the Opening Day in which all are welcome to attend.

Any Questions please don’t hesitate to ask.

Million Paws Walk 2012

The RSPCA is running the Million Paws Walk again in 2012, and our club via M/S Jessica Orr is organising a team to walk. Jessica has provided the following information.

We will be helping to raise vital funds to assist in caring for more than 18,000 dogs that their Animal Care Centres receive each year. These dogs are not as fortunate as your much loved family pet. They often need to be desexed and vaccinated before they can be put on the road to finding a new home. I got my dog Cosmo from the RSPCA after he was hit by a car and disowned by his previous family and without the RSPCAs hard work, he most likely would have not had this second chance. So whether you have a dog or not, you can walk on Sunday 20 May and fundraise to help make a real difference to the lives of these
18,000 dogs.

Yearly costs involved in caring for these dogs include:

  • $360,000 for vaccination medication
  • $270,000 to provide heartworm treatment
  • $216,000 to provide food and shelter

I am organising a team to walk at Cleveland (GJ Walter Park, Shore St East). It is a fun day out for the whole family as there will be entertainment, food and drink and lots of animal fun! The walk starts at 10am. Registration costs are below. Concession counts as student, pensioner, or senior.

Registration prices available until 5.00pm Friday 18 May

  • Adult: $12
  • Child: $6
  • Family: $28
  • Concession: $8

Registration prices, 18 May onwards

  • Adult : $15
  • Child: $10
  • Family : $35
  • Concession: $10

To register go to: http://qld.millionpawswalk.com.au/default.asp?PageID=21344 Once you have registered (or just donate if you cannot attend), go to this page to sign up for our fundraising page (the password is black belt) and click on the join this team button under the donate now button (or click on the donate now button if you can’t come), then signup for fundraising:
http://www.millionpawswalkfundraising.com.au/russell_macarthur_tkd

Get your family and friends to donate as well! Remember all funds raised will be going to the RSPCA to help all disadvantaged animals – big and small! Once you have done that, send me an email (jessica.orr.is@gmail.com) with who is walking and what size shirt they will need (Mr Macarthur has shirts which are used for other fundraising events which he is kindly allowing us to borrow for the day!). These will be distributed before the walk so we can look super awesome on the day!

Any questions, feel free to email me!

Thanks,
Jessica Orr

Additionally, the club has now become a corporate sponsor of the RSPCA. We are also looking to organise a volunteering day at the RSPCA (on a Thursday) (set by the RSPCA) and sorry only over 18 – RSPCA rules). If you’re interested also send me an email! This will be organised separately from the walk.
